"I came to Longlands after a friend recommended the site to me. I love the friendliness of everyone at Longlands including the very helpful staff. I’m constantly telling people about what they are missing out on in this part of South Cumbria, with its fantastic views and very friendly locals."

Make the most of Autumn

Autumn is a great time of year to visit the Park. We’re surrounded by the golden hues of the woodland and have been blessed with lots of stunning blue sky days.

The local walking routes offer fantastic vista’s ideal for budding photographers, and once you’ve built an appetite, there are plenty of places to indulge in a post-walk pub meal and a pint.  In fact, we are rather spoilt for choice in South Cumbria with a great array of copy pubs and cafes, many of which wouldn’t take a blind bit of notice if you were to walk in with muddy walking boots and a dog in tow.  Some of our staff’s favourites walking loops and pubs include:

  •  Cartmel Racecourse carpark to Holker Hall circuit via the Hole of Ellel, with a spot of lunch at the Holker Courtyard Café
  • Lowick Bridge to Spark Bridge loop and then a pub lunch at the Royal Oak Inn at Spark Bridge
  • One of the various waymarked circuits around Grizedale Forest starting and ending at the visitor centre and then a meal at the Eagles Head at Satterthwaite
  • Finally, the ridge walk along Whitbarrow Scar and then to the Derby Arms at Witherslack.

Of course you don’t need to move off site to enjoy the autumnal sights, smells and sounds.  There is a definite smell of wood smoke in the air & plenty of piles of leaves to jump in! October and November are also the perfect months to retreat to your caravan and while away the days indulging in some R&R; reading a novel, chatting to friends or taking a gentle swim.

For the park staff however, these two months are fairly busy, making preparation for the winter months, whether it be draining down parts of the sites water system, leaf blowing, tidying up and mulching leaves.  They will also be preparing for the joint End of Season Fun Day, which is held on Saturday 29th October. We’re all crossing our fingers for a sunny day to enjoy the planned children’s activities, annual mini triathlon and Barbecue. We hope to see you all there!
